A midwife is a health professional who provides pregnancy, birth and post natal (immediately after birth) support for mother, babies and families.

Good midwives:
Have a genuine interest in pregnancy and child birth
Are compassionate and enjoy caring for people
Have the ability to think objectively and make decisions
Can communicate effectively and explain things to mothers and families
Have the ability to listen to what women tell you, and sometimes what they don’t tell you.
How do I become a midwife?
To become a midwife in Australia, you have two options:
