Nutrition across the lifespan from ICU to ethics

The Alfred ICU and their Major Sponsor Baxter have joined forces with The Australasian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (AuSPEN)to offer a joint three day educational meeting focusing on Nutrition in the Critically Ill and Nutrition across the spectrum.

Both organising committees are delighted to be presenting International speakers Prof Mette Berger (an intensivist from Lausanne in Switzerland with significant experience in nutrition for the ICU patient, especially in the areas of micronutrient requirements and nutrition for burns patients) and Prof Alastair Forbes (Professor and Head of Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition at University College Hospital and University College London, whose interests lie mainly in intestinal failure and inflammatory bowel disease, including laboratory work on intestinal regeneration) along with a host of Interstate speakers who are leaders in their fields.

Sessions Include:

¨ Feeding the critically ill patient with Burns, Sepsis/ARDS, Obesity, gastrointestinal surgery

¨ Managing Constipation and Diarrhoea in the ICU

¨ Nutrition Support in the Compromised Gut

¨ Making Parenteral Nutrition Safe on the Ward

¨ Ethical Issues and Nutrition at End of Life

The programs focus on the latest evidence and research in nutrition and its practical application at the bedside.

Together, the two meetings run from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 November 2011.We are offering the opportunity to attend either meeting or to book for both at a substantially reduced price.

Alfred Symposium

For those attending the Thursday sessions there is a cocktail party on site at the Park Hyatt on the opening Thursday night and this is included in the fees.

On the Friday evening the AuSPEN Conference Dinner will be held in the Park Hyatt Ballroom with drinks starting from 7.30pm.This Gala dinner includes a three course meal, premium beverages and entertainment.There will also be a fascinating after dinner presentation from Australia’s first intestinal transplant patient.All attendees are welcome to purchase a ticket at the same time as you make your meeting booking.

As well as the reduction in price for the purchase of the joint meeting, it is important to note that the Early Bird fees for the educational meetings is a further significant discount for those who book before Friday 16 September 2011.
