Bachelor of Health Science - Midwifery
Description
This comprehensive degree (approved by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand) prepares students for a rewarding career in an independent practice as a midwife. More than half of a student’s time is spent in clinical practice, because practical experience is a vital component of becoming a midwife. This shift work involves being available on call. Students should be prepared for full time clinical experience throughout Auckland.
Graduates become competent to work in partnership with women and their families to provide excellent midwifery care, and to understand uncomplicated childbirth. Complicated childbirth, neonatal care and babies requiring special care are also covered
Requirements
* University Entrance
* NCEA:
o Minimum of 42 credits at level 3 including: Minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in biology or chemistry; 14 credits in level 3 or higher in an English-language-rich subject; a further 14 credits at level 3 or higher in 2 additional subjects or domains in the National Qualifications Framework OR evidence of academic equivalence.
* Must be capable of meeting HPCA** Act requirements

* Demonstrated ability to study successfully at degree level
