DescriptionThe course provides a good balance of nursing theory and practice, and you will undertake supporting studies in biological, behavioural and social science, and the humanities. You are supervised by academic and clinical staff considered leaders in the nursing field. Approximately half of the learning experiences are clinically based to ensure you gain extensive practical experience. Industry clinical placements are available in a range of public and private hospitals and community services throughout Brisbane and in regional and rural areas of Queensland. These include public and private hospitals and nursing homes, as well as community service areas such as community health, occupational health, domiciliary nursing services, school health, Aboriginal health, pathology laboratories, alcohol and drug dependence and the armed services.Many nurses specialise in a specific area such as aged care, mental health, paediatrics, midwifery, intensive care, cancer, medical/surgical, community practice, emergency or women's health. Nurses are in demand all over the world and QUT nursing graduates have been successful in obtaining employment overseas, including in Britain, New Zealand and North America. The course meets the requirements for accreditation by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council. Graduates meet the requirements for registration by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and are also eligible for membership of the Royal College of Nursing, Australia (RCNA).
