Certificate II in Health Support Services
Description
This certificate offers a formal curriculum, which has been developed in close consultation with industry. This course provides the education and training necessary to achieve competency in a range of skills required for employment in many fields of the health industry. Graduates of this course will be capable of assisting in the provision of high quality care in a compassionate, respectful and just manner. In particular, the School of Nursing, Broome campus seeks to ensure all graduates are able to work culturally appropriately, effectively and ethically with Aboriginal people.
The Certificate II in Health Support Services is a standalone qualification which may enable students to work in the Health Industry in a support services role. These roles include Support services worker, Hospital assistant, Orderly and Ward assistant. Graduates from this package will have the opportunity to enroll the following year in the Certificate III Health Services Assistant with RPL towards 7 of the 15 units. Graduates will also have the opportunity to receive RPL towards 6 of the 11 units required to complete Certificate II in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
The Certificate consists of 4 compulsory units and 8 elective units of theory based learning and practical sessions. Students will have the opportunity to have work experience throughout the year which allows them to practice the skills they will have learn t in the simulation laboratory at the University of Notre Dame. Some assessments will also be undertaken during workplace experience. Work experience will also give students valuable insight into the health industry. This course is suitable for Year 11 and 12 students as part of a VET in schools program, and also for school leavers and other interested persons wanting to gain employment in the health industry.
Requirements
Applications are encouraged from students of all ages. The comprehensive entry requirements consider past study performance as well as personal accomplishments and suitability for the course. Prospective students must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written skills. Examples of minimum entry requirements are:

•Other as determined by the admissions committee
Notes
The Broome Campus offers quality on-site accommodation in the Student Village. The Village is made up of the Student Hostel which provides short-term accommodation for students who attend ‘block study’ programs and the Student Housing which is made up of nine separate houses for students studying full time for at least one semester.
