Description

This certificate offers a formal curriculum, which has been developed in close consultation with industry. This course provides the education and training necessary to achieve competency in a range of skills required for employment in many fields of the health industry.
Graduates of this course will be capable of assisting in the provision of high quality care in a compassionate, respectful and just manner. In particular, the School of Nursing, Broome campus seeks to ensure all graduates are able to work culturally appropriately, effectively and ethically with Aboriginal people.

The Certificate III in Health Services Assistant is a standalone qualification which may enable students to work in the Health Industry in a support services role. These roles include support services worker, nursing support worker, nursing Assistant, hospital assistant, orderly, patient care assistant, patient services assistant and ward assistant.
The certificate is also offered as a pathway opportunity for further education, including the Diploma of Nursing which is also offered at Notre Dame Broome campus.

Students will have the opportunity to have work experience throughout the course which allows them to practice the skills they will have learn t in the simulation laboratory at the University of Notre Dame. Some assessments will also be undertaken during workplace experience. Work experience will also provide students with valuable insight into the health industry.
This course is suitable for school leavers or other interested persons wanting to gain employment in the health industry, and current employees in the health and aged care sector wanting to gain a qualification. It is also suitable for Year 11 and 12 students upon completion of the Certificate II in Health Support Services as a VET in schools program.

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from students of all ages. The comprehensive entry requirements consider past study performance as well as personal accomplishments and suitability for the course. Prospective students must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written skills. Examples of minimum entry requirements are:

• Certificate II in Health Support Services
• WA Certificate of Education, Yr 10 level
• Other as determined by the admissions committee

Notes

The Broome Campus offers quality on-site accommodation in the Student Village. The Village is made up of the Student Hostel which provides short-term accommodation for students who attend ‘block study’ programs and the Student Housing which is made up of nine separate houses for students studying full time for at least one semester.
