Description

Work autonomously in a range of settings to develop and facilitate programs for young people.
This qualification covers workers who develop and facilitate programs for young people through a range of community based programs designed to address the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of young people.
This work may be undertaken through employment in community, government and welfare agencies and workers will be:
Responsible for implementing policies and guidelines of the employing organisation
Largely self directed with a fairly autonomous decision making capacity under the indirect supervision of a manager.
Qualification Structure
Students are required to successfully complete 16 units including 11 compulsory and 5 elective units.

-Residential care worker
-Support worker residential
-Youth alcohol and other drugs worker
-Youth and family resource officer
-Youth and family service officer
-Youth case worker

On successful completion of this qualification students will have completed the pre-requisites for a Diploma of Youth Work.

Requirements

Nil entry requirements.
This qualification is only offered to those who are currently employed or able to obtain work experience in the Community Services Sector.
The entry requirement for this qualification is successful completion of Year 10 in an Australian school system or its equivalent, or mature age students where education, work and life experiences are indicative of likely success in the course. Sound levels of numeracy and literacy skills are desirable.

Students must hold a current Blue card issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian. If you do not hold a Blue card, the Institute will help you obtain this once you have enrolled.

Recognition of Prior Learning - The RPL process is available to prospective students who may have knowledge and skills from current/previous job roles. Contact the Institute on 3817 3000 for an RPL Information Kit.

Notes

In Class Program

Full Time Study - 12 months. Full time means enrolling and completing the course in the suggested timeframe.
Part Time Study - 2 years.
Next Intake February 2012. Classes are held at Bundamba Campus Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm. 1st Semester of this program will offer the compulsory units of Certificate IV. Classes will be held to complete the compulsory units in Semester 1 only.

2nd Semester of this program students have the option to complete specific electives in Community Services such as Youth Work, Community Services Work, Child Protection, Residential and Out of Home Care or Family Support. Students will undertake their chosen elective units through My.TAFE (On-Line) study.

Students who wish to study on campus are encouraged to fill in an On Campus TAFE Application form.


On-Line Intakes
Queensland and Interstate residents can enrol in any month of the year. This qualification is delivered On-Line through My.TAFE. To study On-Line, students will require access to the internet and a current email address to successfully complete this qualification. Vocational Placement - Students who are not currently employed in the Community Services sector will have to enrol and undertake Vocational Placement over the length of their studies to successfully complete this qualification.
