Diploma of Children's Services (Early childhood education and care)
Description
This qualification covers workers in children's services responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services (0-5 years) in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. Workers have responsibility for supervision of other staff and volunteers. Additional training required to work across 0-12 years of age.
This qualification covers workers who are responsible for developing and evaluating the program. Workers at this level have responsibility for the supervision of other staff and volunteers and in most States it is the highest qualification required at director or service manager level. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities.
This qualification provides an educational program focusing on the knowledge, attitudes and skills required by a person working with children and their families.
Employment may be sought in the following occupational areas:
* Child Care Centres (Group leader level)
* Occasional Care (Group leader level)
* Family Day Care
* Home Based Care
* Kindergarten and Pre School - Assistant level
Early Childhood Bridging Program for Qld Registered Teachers -
* Kindergarten and Pre School - Group leader, Educational leader
On successful completion of this qualification students may articulate into university studies. Please contact the individual university to determine which credits may be granted.
Requirements
Entry requirements include demonstrated competence in 12 additional CHC08 competencies. Additional training required to work across 0-12 years of age and candidates must demonstrate competence through a recognised training program or recognition process in a specified number and selection of units. Refer to CHC08 training package qualification structure for details.
This course is available to child care employees only.
Note: In order to gain paid employment within a Child Care service students must be 17 years of age or over.
Successful completion of CHC30402 Certificate III in Children's Services or equivalent is an entry requirement for this course.
Refer to training package - specified units from CHC30402 Certificate III in Children's Services or equivalent are pre-requisites to this qualification. Please note: CHCCN5C Care for babies is a compulsory pre-requisite.
* Early Childhood Bridging Program for Qld Registered Primary Teachers
A customised Early Childhood Bridging Program has been developed to assist Queensland registered primary teachers, who wish to work in child care services to gain children's services qualifications.
Teachers qualified in primary education are eligible to enrol in the Bridging Program if they:
are currently registered with the Queensland College of Teachers
hold a current First Aid Certificate
completed their primary teaching qualification in or later than 1990 or
graduated pre-1990 (would also need to complete a pre-requisite competency CHCIC11B Implement and promote inclusive policies and practices).
