Description

This combined qualification leads to the awards of Diploma of Community Services Work from Brisbane North Institute of TAFE and Bachelor of Human Services from Queensland University of Technology. Students undertake the first 2 years of study at Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, Caboolture Campus and complete the degree at QUT.

The qualification addresses work in roles that usually involve service delivery, either direct client work and / or community development work. Workers at this level operate at an advanced skill level and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other staff and volunteers.

There are various career paths you may follow at the completion of this program. Occupational titles for graduates may include Case Manager/Worker, Community Development Work and Support Worker.

Students will attend Brisbane North Institute of TAFE for 2 years full-time for the Diploma and then will attend Queensland University of Technology for an additional 2 years. Students will receive approved credits towards the degree.

Requirements

To gain entry into this program candidates must:
1. Be recognised as competent, through a recognised training program or recognition process, against the following compulsory units of competency from CHC40708 Certificate IV in Community Services Work:
• CHCCS411A - Work effectively in the community sector, and
• HLTHIR403B - Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers. These two units are offered during Semester 1 for those students who do not have competency prior to undertaking the program;
OR
2. Have sufficient relevant experience and knowledge of community work and/or community services to indicate likely success at this level of qualification in a job role involving:
• the application of knowledge with depth in some areas and demonstration of a broad range of technical and other skills;
• a wide range of tasks and roles in a variety of contexts, with complexity in the range and choices of actions required and including work with culturally diverse clients and co-workers;
• the exercise of discretionary judgement and decision making under general guidance.
