Diploma of Counselling
Description
Counselling is a process where a qualified person assists people to address difficulties in their relationships or their lives. It is a collaborative process that develops a confidential helping relationship. You will gain skills and knowledge to develop strategies to address and resolve client issues, recognise the importance of a client-centered approach to helping others, and broaden your understanding of the theories that underpin the counselling process.
Students may also gain competitive specialist skills and training both within the counselling profession and the wider community services employment sector. This program also includes training in contemporary counselling practice, specifically post modern narrative counselling and expressive therapies.
There are various career paths you may follow at the successful completion of this program. Occupational titles for graduates may include Counsellor or Problem Gambling Worker, and other human service roles involving face to face client interventions. Other career paths may include further studies. You may contact the Career Counsellor Services to explore options in this regard.
Requirements
It is preferable that students have a Year 12 level pass at a Queensland Secondary School, or its equivalent. Applicants who do not have Queensland Year 12 or its equivalent may be accepted through mature age entry
Notes
Students will attend class 3 to 4 days per week, classes may be scheduled between 9.00am and 6.00pm weekdays.
This program will take 18 months (3 Semesters) to complete.
