Description

This program will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge to work as an Enrolled Nurse in a variety of health care settings, such as public and private hospitals, or in the community. You will acquire the skills to implement basic nursing care, assess clients' health, and analyse health related information.

Learn how to administer and monitor medications, and care for older clients, acute care clients and people with mental health conditions.

In addition, you will develop effective communication skills and learn how to work within legal and ethical parameters in nursing.

Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to apply for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Students successfully completing this program may consider employment within private or public hospitals, domiciliary services, aged care facilities or medical practices.

Requirements

Completion of Year 12 with sound achievement in Maths, Science and English recommended. Mature age students are welcome to apply.

Notes

When can I start?
February and July . The next available intake is 6 February 2012.

How much time will I commit?
Students will attend Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, Caboolture Campus for 18 months to complete the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2 Nursing) and will then continue the Bachelor of Nursing with QUT which will take a further 2 years.

Vocational Placement
This program has a component of 400 hours mandatory Vocational Placement over 3 semesters which ALL students must attend. This is arranged by Brisbane North Institute of TAFE staff according to program requirements. Vocational Placement may consist of shift work (ie. 7.00am - 2.30pm commencement).

Students will be required to have the following prior to commencement of Vocational Placement :

Current Senior First Aid Certificate
Student Blue Card
Federal Criminal History Check
Hepatitis B vaccinations which can be obtained from your family doctor.
Proof of commencement or completion of Hepatitis vaccinations will be required upon commencement of class.
