Description

The 18 month Diploma program offers a formal curriculum, which has been developed in close consultation with industry and other educational providers. This course provides the education and training necessary to achieve competency in the wide range of skills required for the role of an Enrolled Nurse.
Graduates of this course will be capable of providing high quality care in a compassionate, respectful and just manner. In particular, the School of Nursing, Broome campus seeks to ensure all graduates are able to work culturally appropriately, effectively and ethically with Aboriginal people.

Graduates of this program will be eligible to register as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia. An Enrolled Nurse, who is an associate of the Registered Nurse, works under the direction of a Registered Nurse in assisting in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing care in hospitals, aged-care facilities, the community and other health care settings. Enrolled Nurses are a skilled and integral part of the nursing team.
Diploma graduates meet RPL requirements for entry into the Bachelor of Nursing (Conversion) program at the University of Notre Dame Australia,

Clinical placements will be varied with opportunity for practise in hospital and health care settings including: medical/surgical wards, community health, mental health and aged care. Students will attend various clinical placement blocks during the 18 months.

Requirements

Applications are encouraged from students of all ages. The comprehensive entry requirements consider past academic performance as well as personal accomplishments and suitability for the course. Prospective students must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written skills. Examples of minimum entry requirements are:
- TER score of 60 or more or,
- A WA Certificate of Education demonstrating primarily “A” and /or “B” grade averages or,
- Mature age STAT score over 135, or
- Tertiary Enabling Program, credit average grades
- Certificate IV, or
- Certificate III, health industry experience and evidence of successful further studies in literacy, numeracy and study skills.

Notes

The Broome Campus offers quality on-site accommodation in the Student Village. The Village is made up of the Student Hostel which provides short-term accommodation for students who attend „block study‟ programs and the Student Housing which is made up of nine separate houses for students studying full time for at least one semester.
