Diploma of TCM Remedial Massage (An mo tui na) (HLT50107)
Description
The Diploma course comprises four semesters (two years) full time, or up to four years part time.
The course is composed of three basic streams as prescribed by the government national training authority health packages, and is designed to comply with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) accreditation guidelines.
The first stream is in Clinical Management studies. The units in this stream are designed to give students a good grounding in the skills needed to manage a health practice as a small business. Issues pertaining to professional development, research and occupational health and safety are also covered.
The second stream encompasses basic studies in the Western Health Sciences. These units are needed to practice as an effective remedial massage therapist in contemporary society. Subjects included are Anatomy and Physiology and Pathophysiology (disease states).
The third and largest stream in this course is concerned with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) paradigm of health and disease. This stream introduces fundamental TCM concepts associated with the history and philosophy of TCM, as well as important diagnostic principles necessary for the TCM Remedial Massage Practitioner. The TCM component of this course is well balanced between theory and practice, with the introduction of practical TCM massage techniques (An MoTui Na) in the first semester and following through into the second and third semesters. These TCM massage techniques focus primarily on the manipulation of QI (Energy) within a specific framework, known as the meridian system. It is through the manipulation of this Qi that conditions of imbalance or ill health can be rectified and a healthy state restored. In this way An Mo Tui Na can be employed not only as an effective technique in the restoration of good health but also as part of a health maintenance regime.
The third and fourth semesters of the Diploma enables students to perform more specific An Mo Tui Na techniques associated with paediatrics, gynaecology and obs
