Diploma of Youth Work
Description
This qualification covers workers who provide a range of services and interventions to young people aged 12 to 25. Workers in this occupational group provide support to young people and/or colleagues.
Gain the skills and knowledge to work as a Youth Worker in a range of community and institution-based agencies, which are designed to meet the social, behavioural, health, welfare, development and protection needs of young people.
Upon successful completion of this program students may work as:
• Community Development Worker
• Residential Care Worker
• Youth and Family Services Worker
• Youth Housing Support Worker
• Youth Worker
Employment may be found in community, government, welfare or church agencies.
Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this program as the following compulsory units of competency fromCHC41808 - Certificate IV in Youth Work will be offered in the first Semester of study.
• CHCCOM403A - Use targeted communication skills to build relationships
• CHCCS400A - Work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
• CHCCS422A - Respond holistically to client issues and refer appropriately
• CHCYTH401A - Engage respectfully with young people
• CHCYTH402A - Work effectively with young people in the youth work context
• HLTHIR403B - Work effectively with culturally diverse clients or co-workers
• HLTOHS300A - Contribute to occupational health and safety processes.
Prior to commencing Vocational Placement students will be required to have a Positive Notice Blue Card for working with children issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, and must also hold a current First Aid Certificate.

Upon successful completion of this program students may consider a wide range of University pathways which exist in Community Services including child protection, juvenile justice, alcohol and drugs and mental health - refer to individual Universities for further details.
