Description

This course is an innovative approach to the professional development of early career registered nurses in the workforce. The course offers the balance of practical, theoretical and professional support using a combined health sector and tertiary education approach.

The benefits of this course are:
• Enhanced clinical confidence
• Additional support (clinical and educational) to become a competent and confident practitioner
• Continued learning and reflective practice
• Studies in clinical governance and management
• Graduate Certificate if all assessments passed
• Graduate Certificate is credited toward further Diploma or Masters studies

The purpose of the program of study is to develop clinical confidence in decision-making and the enhancement of clinical skills and knowledge in the early career Registered Nurse. This will be achieved with the combination of structured and assessed clinical rotations and two theoretical units of study. With additional support (clinical and educational) the early career nurse will transition from new graduate to confident, competent and effective member of the health care team.

On completion of the course, the student will:
• Provide evidence-based, holistic nursing care to allocated patients;
• Employ effective communication and interpersonal skills;
• Fulfil the role of the professional registered nurse;
• Function as an effective member of the multidisciplinary health care team
• Evaluate own performance and meet learning and developmental objectives.
• Understand the need for continual professional development
