Graduate Diploma of Midwifery

Graduate Diploma of Midwifery

Description

The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery aims to produce graduates who have the knowledge, values, attitudes and competencies that reflect the philosophy, nature, and scope of midwifery practice to meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The course provides students with opportunities to develop midwifery practice through integration of the theory and clinical competencies within a supportive supervised midwifery practicum. The course is also available for midwives who wish to upgrade their qualifications from a hospital certificate course.

Professional recognition
On successful completion of this course, students will be awarded the qualification of Graduate Diploma of Midwifery. This course has been designed to enable eligibility to apply for endorsement as a midwife through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Requirements

Applicants for the Graduate Diploma must be registered nurses who possess a Bachelor of Nursing degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification and have normally had one year of relevant clinical nursing experience within the last five years prior to entry. Students may also be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process.

Applicants for the Masters should be midwives endorsed as registered nurses with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, who have completed a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
