Master of Clinical Psychology

Master of Clinical Psychology

Description

CQUniversity’s Master of Clinical Psychology will provide you with strong practical and research training, and equip you with the advanced knowledge and skills required for clinical psychology.

One of the benefits of studying this program at CQUniversity is that you will have interaction with experienced staff with diverse specialities, as well as international leaders in the field. A key feature of this program is that you will have access to the CQUniversity Psychology Wellness Centre - a teaching, research and treatment centre offering professional and confidential clinical psychological services to the Central Queensland community. The centre operates as a training clinic in which you will be given the opportunity to put into practice your developing clinical skills under the supervision of registered clinical psychologists. As it is a requirement to complete a year of supervision to be eligible for registration to practice as a psychologist, this centre holds strong appeal for psychology students as they do not have to seek out placements externally. Completion of the masters also provides you with full membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Psychologists study human behaviour, conduct research and provide treatment and counselling in order to reduce distress and behavioural and psychological problems, and to promote mental health in individuals and groups. Typically, psychologists conduct academic and applied research, are involved in counselling or interviewing clients, design and implement programs to modify and improve behaviour, evaluate the efficacy of psychological treatments or programs, assess and treat psychological problems and design and administer a wide range of tests to assess and predict how people think, feel and behave. Clinical psychologists are specifically concerned with preventing, assessing, diagnosing and treating people who have psychological problems or mental illness.
