Master of Health Professional Education

Description

This course is designed to meet the unique requirements of teachers working in university and health professional contexts, The course is aimed at a broad cross-section of health professions including medicine, nursing, psychology, paramedic studies, pharmacy, dietetics, physiotherapy, radiography, occupational therapy and speech pathology. The course enables participants to develop the theoretical basis of their educational practices in a highly focused and applied manner leading to personally and professionally relevant outcomes.

The course is designed to:

•support excellence in course development for the health professions by developing educators who can design and implement curriculum frameworks that are based on sound educational theory and research
•improve the learning experience of students in a variety of learning environments by increasing the pool of teachers with advanced level skills
•strengthen the teaching-research nexus in health professional education
•foster the development of career pathways in education
•prepare future educational leaders and policy makers in the health arena.

This program is designed for health professional educators wishing to study contemporary evidence-based educational practices and to undertake educational coursework and/or research. The course can be undertaken in one of three ways, each of which commences with the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education (or an approved equivalent) plus: a further 48 credit points of coursework units; a further 24 credit-points of coursework units and a 24 credit point thesis; a further 12 credit points of coursework units and a 36 credit point thesis. This course is available to international students for study in Australia.

Requirements

Minimum entrance requirements
Applicants must be graduates from any health related or education profession who are currently engaged in teaching or educational development in or of the health related disciplines. Applicants must complete the Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education (or an approved equivalent) before proceeding to the masters program.
