DescriptionThe aim of this course is to provide Registered Midwives with a post-graduate qualification in their professional field of practice, and to enhance their knowledge of professional issues and develop their ability to work independently through projects or research.The program consists of 54 units of study offered over 1.5 years full-time or part-time equivalent study. Students will undertake 18 units of negotiated studies, 13.5 units of core courses, comprising Collaborative Approaches to Health (9 units) plus Applying Research to Nursing and Midwifery Practice (4.5 units),4.5 units of elective courses, and 18 units of minor thesis or project work. RequirementsMaster of MidwiferyNormally, applicants are required to: hold a Bachelor degree in Midwifery from a recognised higher education institution, or have completed hospital based training as a Registered Midwife following registration as a general nurse; AND (all applicants) hold a Current Practising Certificate as a Midwife; AND (all applicants) have completed, within the last three years, a minimum of one year of clinical experience as a Registered Midwife. NotesRulesCredit for previous studies or in recognition of prior learning may be granted in accordance with University Policy. Maximum credit allowed is normally one-third of the total units of the program. Registered Midwives who are also Registered Nurses will be granted up to 18 units of credit in the Master of Midwifery. Students must complete 18 units of either Minor Thesis 1 and 2 or Project 1 and 2 as the final two courses of their program. Students who undertake Minor Thesis 1 and 2 must undertake the Research Methodologies specialisation unless approved by the Program Director.
