DescriptionThe aim of this course if to prepare registered nurses to work in a diversity of fields to develop previously acquired knowledge and skills by extending their professional expertise.The Masters of Nursing program consists of 54 units of study offered over 1.5 years of full-time or part-time equivalent. Students will undertake 18 units of study in a specialty area or professional courses, 13.5 units of core courses, comprising Collaborative Approaches to Health (9 units) plus Applying Research to Nursing and Midwifery Practice (4.5 units), 4.5 units of elective courses, and 18 units of minor thesis or project work. Requirements* Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent, and* Eligible to be licensed to practice as a registered nurse/midwife in own country or place of residence, and * A minimum of one-year of clinical experience as a registered nurse. NotesRulesCredit for previous studies or in recognition of prior learning may be granted in accordance with the University policy. Maximum credit allowed is normally one-third of the total units of the program. Students with a relevant award from the University of South Australia, award not more than 10 years old, may be granted up to a total of 27 units of credit in the Master's program. Graduates holding a Bachelor of Nursing Practice (IBNP) or Graduate Diploma in Nursing (IGNU) will be awarded 27 units of credit, at the discretion of the Program Director. Students holding the following nurse specialist certificates awarded by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Adelaide Community Health Care Alliance will be granted a maximum of one-third credit (i.e. 18 units) towards the Master of Nursing, and one-half (18 units) towards the Graduate Diploma in Nursing provided the qualification has been completed no more than 10 years prior to an individual student's application. The relevant Hospital Certificates for which credit may be granted are: Advanced Surgical/Medical Nursing; Anaesthetics and Recovery; Coronary Care; Emergency; Intensive Care; Medical Imaging; Nephrology; Operating Room, and Perioperative. Registered Nurses with mental health qualifications (Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing) will be granted 18 units credit in the Master of Mental Health. Students having completed the Graduate Diploma in Community Mental Health or the Graduate Diploma in Rural and Remote Mental Health may gain up to 27 units of credit in the Master of Mental Health at the discretion of the Program Director. Registered Nurses who are also Registered Midwifes may be granted up to 18 units of credit in the Master of Midwifery. Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Nursing (IGNG) will be awarded a total of 27 units of credit in the Master of Nursing (IMNG). Subscribe to the RSS feed or get updates via email. |
