The program is designed to foster and encourage knowledge building in occupational health and safety areas including occupational health, occupational hygiene and toxicology, ergonomics, occupational health and safety law, management and current practice. This program is designed to help you develop advanced knowledge, critical understanding and problem-solving approaches to occupational health and safety issues.

The Master of Occupational Health and Safety is accreditated for graduate entry to the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) in the UK. IOSH is Europe’s leading body for health and safety professionals and has a role in promoting the standing of qualifications in OHS offered by higher education institutions and in setting professional standards. Accreditation is important recognition of the value of the Master of Occupational Health and Safety.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (excluding undergraduate degrees in Occupational Health & Safety), or other qualifications approved for this purpose by the Pro Vice-Chancellor. Special entry will be offered to candidates with a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety and with 5 years industry experience in Occupational Health & Safety, at the discretion of the Pro Vice-Chancellor. Supporting documentation is to be submitted with the application.

Notes

The Master of Occupational Health and Safety prepares graduates for work in the preparation and implementation of occupational health and safety programs at the workplace. In many cases, you will be in positions of managerial or professional responsibility, through which you are required to develop policies and strategies in response to the occupational health and safety needs of your organisation.

The program will extend your skills in occupational health and safety by raising awareness of occupational health and safety issues and methods of dealing with these risks and dangers in the workplace.

After completing the Master of Occupational Health and Safety, you will be able to work as an occupational, health and safety officer, manager, inspector or occupational health and safety consultant.

The area of occupational health and safety continues to offer many jobs in the current marketplace, ranging from occupational health and safety officers, coordinators, advisors and managers. The Master of Occupational Health and Safety will provide you with knowledge to enable you to work in positions of responsibility within occupational health and safety, to advance the health, safety and wellbeing of workers and to develop policy, procedures and strategies in response to occupational health and safety needs of organisations and to apply with relevant legislation.

If you are already a professional, you will be able to seek continuing education points from your respective professional body for completion of these programs or parts thereof.
