Description

The Master of Pharmacy Practice is an off-campus, coursework-based degree, flexible enough to fit into any pharmacist's professional development plan. The course is designed to enable students to develop a deep and more specialised range of attributes that builds upon the foundations of an undergraduate pharmacy degree.

The Master of Pharmacy Practice is designed to enable students to develop a deep and more specialised range of attributes than those able to be acquired in the undergraduate pharmacy program. Students will be able to select units related to various advanced areas of pharmacy practice, for example aspects of clinical practice, wound care, and health economics.

It is envisaged that students will articulate into this course from the Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice and internship courses to further their professional development, however, direct entry is also an option for registered pharmacists.

The objectives of this course are to:

•provide a knowledge base for more advanced practice in a variety of pharmacy practice areas
•develop skills in critical literature evaluation
•further develop written and oral communication skills.
Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to:

•undertake more advanced practice roles in selected areas
•critically evaluate literature
•use evidence-based principles to guide practice.

Requirements

Minimum entrance requirements
•A bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in pharmacy.
•Registered as a pharmacist by the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
•English language requirements.

Applicants should apply online and submit the relevant additional documents as specified on the faculty website.

Notes

Geriatric pharmacy practice requires students to undertake patient medication history interviews and medication reviews in the student's workplace. Home Medicines Review are to be conducted under the supervision of an accredited consultant pharmacist or hospital outreach pharmacist (assistance is available with organising this for students located in Victoria, if the student does not have access to a suitably experienced pharmacist).
