DescriptionThe mission of Oceania University of Medicine is to produce physicians with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes to improve the health of underserved communities in Oceania and beyond, via traditional and innovative instructional modalities to help individuals overcome distance, personal, and professional barriers to realize their calling to the medical profession.Graduate MBBS program - OUM presents the graduate Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in a flexible, student-centered environment using a problem-based learning approach. This links basic science concepts with the development of clinical reasoning from the beginning of the program. Students entering OUM with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree will be awarded the MBBS degree after successfully completing the four-year (full time) course. Undergraduate MBBS program - Located in warm and friendly Western Samoa, OUM has a five-year residential undergraduate MBBS program with an intake in late January/early February of each year. OUM’s Undergraduate MBBS is a five-year medical education program directed at secondary or high school leavers primarily from Samoa, Australia, Malaysia, India, and other Asia-Pacific nations. The Undergraduate MBBS is a residential program which follows a traditional face-to-face lecture format, supplemented by self-directed research, virtual guest lectures and podcasts. The University also utilizes some online delivery methods for its course content such as PBL (problem-based learning) cases. RequirementsGraduate Entry RequirementsThe MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery) degree requires that a student have a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent four-year degree with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and a minimum score of 45 on the GAMSAT, if you are required to take it. If you are a healthcare professional with five or more years of clinical experience, you still need the bachelor's degree, but the GAMSAT requirement may be waived. Your clinical education and healthcare experience indicate that you are capable of doing well in this environment. A science major is not required.
