Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science -Acupuncture
Description
The acupuncture papers within health postgraduate degrees are open to all health professionals in specific practice areas. There are 2 pathways within the acupuncture major:
• Chinese acupuncture
• Western acupuncture
Students, provided they meet the entry requirements, can enter postgraduate programmes at the postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma or masters levels outlined below. For a comprehensive overview of the degree, please refer to the Academic calendar
The PgCertHSc provides you with the opportunity to undertake an approved course of study to advance their specialty discipline, knowledge and scholarly development. This qualification may contribute 60 points towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science*, Master of Health Science or Master of Health Practice.
Western acupuncture papers
Western Acupuncture
• Develops the practical and applied aspects of acupuncture examination and treatment techniques to clinical practice in Western acupuncture.
Theoretical Concepts of Western Acupuncture
• Explores and validates knowledge in Western Acupuncture by the critical review of current literature, research, research methodology and practice.

Chinese acupuncture papers
Theory and Philosophy of Chinese Acupuncture
• Develops knowledge of the theory and philosophy of Chinese acupuncture including pathophysiology and diagnostics of Chinese medicine,. Develops skills in channel marking, point locations and functions, and their safe application in clinical situations.
Clinical Practice in Chinese Acupuncture I
• Introduces acupuncture practice and develops the ability to differentiate and analyse the common syndromes of imbalance (Bian Zheng) including the Zang Fu syndromes.
Chinese Acupuncture and Women's Health
• Develops safe and competent acupuncture practice when treating women clients and their specific health needs (fertility, obstetrics, gynaecology).
Chinese Acupuncture and Rehabilitation
• Develops safe acupuncture practice in the r
Requirements
The Pg Certificate HSc provides students with the opportunity to undertake an approved course of study to advance their specialty discipline, knowledge and scholarly development. This programme comprises three 20-point papers, which can contribute 60 points towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, Master of Health Science or Master of Health Practice.
