Physiotherapist - Queanbeyan Community Health Centre

Employment Status:Temporary Full Time

Position Summary

The physiotherapist will be responsible for providing physiotherapy services for inpatients, outpatients and/or community based clients (including group work) as needed under the direction of and after discussion with the Senior Physiotherapist. The therapist is an active member of a multidisciplinary team and will provide advice on physiotherapy related issues to both staff and the community. Health promotion is a focus of all positions in GSAHS and therapists are involved in these programs.

 

Selection Criteria

Relevant degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.

Current (or eligible for) NSW physiotherapy registration.

Demonstrated experience in the provision of a high standard of evidence based clinical assessment and intervention to a broad range of client groups, using primary health care principles.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement when required.

Demonstrated high level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with a proven ability to liaise and consult with a range of professionals, community groups and local agencies.

Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads in order to achieve effective and efficient service provision.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Evidence of a current Class C driver’s licence and ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances with the Health Service.

 

Principal Responsibilities

Clinical:

Comply with Physiotherapy code of practice.

Provide physiotherapy assessments (on assessment proformas as necessary) to appropriate patients/clients.

Develop physiotherapy intervention programs with the aim of establishing patient independence and wellness.

Involve patients/clients and their carers in decision making and goal setting for management.

Ensure continual evaluation of the effectiveness of physiotherapy intervention.

Support a multidisciplinary approach to management and actively work alongside other health professionals.

Develop individual and group programs in consultation with other team members to encourage wellness.

 

Communication:

Maintain accurate and timely records of physiotherapy assessments and interventions in the medical record/patient record.

Comply with departmental and health service requirements for record keeping.

Provide written reports and verbal communication as appropriate to other health professionals.

Actively participate in the discharge planning process liaising with other health care professionals and agencies both formally and informally.

Communicates with the senior physiotherapist regarding any problems or issues encountered in the provision of physiotherapy services.

Keep up to date with all incoming departmental and area information via email and written notices, phone calls.

Attend staff meetings.

 

Education:

Educate others regarding the role of physiotherapy in the health care team.

Act as an advisor to staff in matters concerning areas of physiotherapy expertise eg in physical functioning issues, manual handling risk assessments and in falls prevention strategies.

Provide supervision to physiotherapy students, AHA students and work experience students as required.

Actively participate in regular professional and other related continuing education programs including departmental inservices, health service continuing education programs, and external professional courses.

 

Management:

Is aware of and working towards NSW Health policies and health service directions. Eg Chronic and Complex care.

Prioritise and manage own caseload and other related work duties as appropriate. May include triage and management of waiting list.

Supervise allied health assistants.

Participate in maintaining the day to day running of the Physiotherapy service by responding to general enquiries regarding physiotherapy services.

Ensure the safe working order of all equipment and reporting hazards( including OH&S inspections).

 

Quality Management:

Participate in GSAHS health promotion strategies both within the hospital and the community.

Be actively involved in departmental and health service quality projects and reviews.

Utilise research findings, best practise initiatives and quality improvement projects to update service delivery.

Comply with Child Protection and Domestic Violence policies & procedures.

Attend mandatory training.

Undertake reasonable travel in accordance with the duties of this position.
