Registered Midwife - Goulburn Base Hospital

Position Summary
The registered midwife is responsible for the provision of professional, competent and effective midwifery care to patients and clients of Wagga Wagga Health Service Cluster (WWHSC). The registered midwife (RM) may be required to work within the variety of clinical services provided by the maternity services unit at WWHSC.
The registered midwife will work a rotating roster with a varied shift length from 4 – 10 hours to fulfill hired full time equivalent (fte) hours and also be available to work overtime and ‘on call’ as required.
Selection Criteria
Current registration as a midwife with the NSW Nurses’ & Midwives’ Board.
Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and policy requirements that govern registered nurses and midwives.
Demonstrated recent competency and skills in the area of midwifery practice.
Demonstrated practice as an effective member of multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and best practice.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Category A applicants will be required to present evidence of protection documentation for specified communicable diseases, as per NSW Health Policy Directive PD2007_006.
Principal Responsibilities
To provide patient care in consideration of NSW Health, GSAHS and WWHSC policies, protocols and legislative requirements.
To provide midwifery care compliant with the Code of Ethics, Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia as published by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council and the GSAHS Code of Conduct.
To provide care that acknowledges the professional and ethical responsibilities of the Registered Nurse/Midwife and meets the elements identified by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council
Domains of Practice and their associated competency standards.
To ensure that nursing care acknowledges and includes the participation of other health professionals who are providing services to patients and clients of the health service cluster.
To provide care encompassing the physical, psychological and psychosocial needs of the patient.
To provide care which includes consideration of the patient’s family, carers and significant others in the participation toward achievement of desired outcomes.
Provide clear, accurate and comprehensive documentation related to all aspects of nursing care provided, ensuring that such documentation reflects good practice principles and meets legal requirements.
Participates in quality activities to evaluate service given and strive for excellence of care.
Actively participate in activities directed toward the achievement of high quality nursing care measured against acceptable standards, benchmarks and criteria.
To ensure that nursing care is provided acknowledging occupational health and safety legislation and requirements, particularly in terms of ensuring safe work practices, a safe working environment and the minimisation of risk of employee injury.
Develop, maintain and extend when necessary a range of clinical competencies and skills which are required for effective and safe patient care, relevant to the area of practice.
Successful completion of all mandatory competencies and maintenance of annual accreditation.
Actively participates in educational activities directed toward professional development and maintenance of a Professional Portfolio.
Supervise and provide guidance and education of new graduate nurses, junior or less experienced nursing staff and nursing students in the provision of patient care.
Actively participates in review of nursing practice, demonstrated through a professional portfolio and performance appraisal with NUM.
Maintain effective communication processes within the scope of professional practice.
Abides by the GSAHS Code of Conduct.
Undertake reasonable travel in accordance with the duties of this position
