Position Summary
The position of mammographer is responsible for ensuring delivery of a high standard of mammography services and ongoing quality management within BreastScreen NSW Greater Southern Service. This involves being consistent with BreastScreen NSW and GSAHS policies and procedures and complying with the National Accreditation Standards (NAS) of Breastscreen Australia.
Selection Criteria
Membership of the Australian Institute of Radiographers. A licence to use irradiating apparatus in accordance with the Radiation Control Act (NSW) 1990
Holder of a Statement of Accreditation from the Australian Institute of Radiography or equivalent or eligibility for membership of the Australian Institute of Radiographers, or qualifications deemed by the Department of Health of NSW to be equivalent
A current certificate of Clinical Proficiency in Mammography or working towards same. Demonstrated extensive experience in screening and diagnostic mammography.
Demonstrated significant professional knowledge and judgment to acquire and exhibit competency in all appropriate clinical tasks.
Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated client focused approach to service delivery.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Quality Improvement process.
Demonstrated good time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
Principal Responsibilities
Practice in accordance with Breast Screen Australia program standards and ensure adherence to the National Accreditation Standards (NAS) of Breast Screen Australia.
Perform mammographic screening examinations as required/directed for the screening and assessment services within BSGS to ensure high quality imaging.
Ensure the adequate identification of imaging films.
Attend staff, Clinical Review (CRM) or other meetings as required or requested by the Designated Radiographer or Director.
Assist to educate clinical staff and develop and procedures for the implementation of new protocols/technologies where required.
Ensure radiation safety is maintained within the workplace.
Assist the Designated Radiographer and the Director with problem solving within the SAS
Ensure clients are treated in a courteous and professional manner having regard to their rights to privacy, dignity, confidentiality and cultural diversity.
Ensure the maintenance of quality assurance procedures for radiographic and film processing equipment including quality control records as required under the Breast Screen Australia accreditation standards and outlined in the BSGS mammography Quality Assurance Manual are adhered to. Quality assurance manuals are adhered to and corrective action taken as required.
Maintain own professional development, participate in continuing education and training to develop knowledge and skills and participate in service training.
When attending a conference or seminar it is a requirement to give a written report and a presentation to staff.
Relieve radiographers at Calvary Hospital Wagga Wagga or on the relocatable unit as required for unplanned and planned leave.
Supervise digital imaging on local PACS server.Help hang films for Radiologist reading.
Undertake reasonable travel in accordance with the duties of this position description
