Nurse Manager - Acute Care or Maternity or ED/OT or Aged Care [Deputy] - Leeton District Hospital

Position Summary
Responsible to the Nurse Manager – Health Service, the Acute Care or Maternity or ED/OT or Aged Care [Deputy] - Health Service is responsible for the day to day nursing and midwifery (if applicable) management of the designated services in the site.
This position is also responsible for a broad range of Nursing & Midwifery operational and professional matters including professional standards and practice, workforce and nursing workloads.
Where/when the site manager is not present, the Nurse Manager – Health Service, Nurse Manager Acute or Maternity or ED/OT or Aged Care [Deputy] assumes the site manager role; particularly so during periods of leave, short or extended absences
Selection Criteria
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the NSW Nurses and Midwifery Board.
Demonstrated management experience and/or relevant tertiary qualifications, or working towards the same, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage clinical services within an acute care environment linking with primary and community health services.
An understanding of the principles of primary health care as they apply to the position.
An understanding of managing cost centre budget and service targets.
Demonstrated ability to communicate, consult and negotiate effectively with peer managers, health professionals, health interest groups and staff.
A commitment to formulating new approaches and implementing quality improvement strategies for nursing and or midwifery services.
Demonstrated computer skills with experience in the use of GSAHS clinical, quality and workforce information management systems

Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances with the Health Service.

Principal Responsibilities
Manage the designated services within a framework that supports innovation and better practice in clinical care and includes a focus on health promotion and early intervention as well as clinical care.
Provide day to day clinical supervision, support and leadership for clinical staff working within the inpatient environment.
Lead the nursing & midwifery (if applicable) team in developing, implementing and evaluating innovative models of clinical care based on contemporary knowledge and practice in the areas of accountability.
Establish and maintain links with the relevant Clinical Network Manager/s and Clinical Nurse Consultants to ensure appropriate and effective implementation of clinical frameworks and guidelines for practice.
Assist in the development of the acute care component of the Service annual business plan, which includes performance measures in relation to safety, quality and integration, finance, activity and FTE.
Ensure the acute care service meets all targets in the Service’s business plan.
Manage the cost centre of the acute care service within budget.
Manage the acute care activity to achieve relevant activity performance targets.
Manage FTE, Nursing & Midwifery [if applicable] workloads and rostering systems to achieve FTE and Nursing & Midwifery profile performance targets.
Assist the site Nurse Manager to ensure that legislative responsibilities for staff working in the services are met, including OH&S, EEO, medication management and professional registration.
Assist the site Nurse Manager to maintain annual performance development plans for all staff, within the designated area of accountability, consistent with the GSAHS Performance Development Program.
Manage complaints, grievances, disputes and disciplinary measures, within the area of accountability, in consultation with the Site Nurse Manager and in accordance with area policy and procedures.
Participate in activities that improve knowledge of human resource management, industrial issues and Area employee policy matters.
Ensure equitable access to appropriate education programs, resources and professional development activities for all staff within the area of accountability.
Ensure compliance with Policies, Guidelines and Protocols within the area of accountability
Attend and contribute to Committees as required/requested by the Site Nurse Manager
Participate in the EQuIP Accreditation process within the area of accountability and ensure that services meet all mandatory standards.
Ensure compliance with Department of Health Policy, GSAHS Health Policy and Procedures and GSAHS By-laws and Delegations within the area of accountability.
