Budget Boost for Mental Health Service Providers
Date Updated:
The boost to mental health spending announced in last weeks budget was well received, and despite concerns that a significant portion of the $2.2 Billion package will only be spent in three years time, the allocation will provide desperately needed funds to many charitable mental health service providers. Once such beneficiary is St Lukes Anglicare in Victoria, which it has been announced will receive a guaranteed $500,000 per year over the next three years to assist the delivery and expansion of its support services for people with mental illness. In addition, a number of new mental healthcentres will be built over the next three years toprovide additional support to adolescents suffering from mental illness, as was announced by Julia Gillard on Friday.
