Flood support for pharmacists
Date of Posting:
Flood-affected pharmacists across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria can now access financial support. The Pharmacists’ Support Service (PSS) this year launched its first ever fund in conjunction with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, raising more than $14,000 from pharmacists across the country wanting to help their embattled colleagues. Contributions to the flood fund have now closed and the funds collected are ready to be distributed. PSS program coordinator Kay Dunkley said flood-affected pharmacists could now apply for flood support. Ms Dunkley said the floods impacted on pharmacists to varying degrees and applicants would be judged on a case-by-case basis. "We will look at how many applications we get and distribute it fairly equitably depending on the need," she said. "It’s a concept of pharmacists supporting pharmacists." The PSS was first established in 1995 and has about 15 staff members, mostly volunteers, who work to provide a telephone support service for pharmacists. Ms Dunkley said the service was now in the process of expanding to broaden its scope across Australia. "We are actually looking for support from the pharmacy profession to fund our ongoing service," she said. Queensland Benevolent Fund applicants will also be considered for access to the pool of funds. Their applications will be rolled over automatically into the new round of funding applications. Application forms are available online at PSA (www.psa.org.au), SHPA (www.shpa.org.au), PDL (www.pdl.org.au), Pharmacists’ Division of APESMA (www.apesma.asn.au) and AFSPA (www.afspa.org.au). Alternatively, contact the PSS on 1300 244 910. Applications close June 30, 2011. Share your thoughts![]() Related and Recent Articles
